Stars are Born
The JMS talent show played to a packed house. Students displayed talents from playing the piano to singing and dancing. The students pictured above, part of the "Kevin Steen and Friends" presentation of "Chicken Noodle Soup" brought the house down. Can you spot the teacher in the picture?

Boy's Track Team Sets New Records
At the recent sectional track and field meet at William Blount, Tailen DiGregorio, who was the boys MVP, tied the school record in the high jump. Anthony Aquino also set a school record in the long jump. While the team of Anthony Aquino, Spenser Shoffner, Alex Ingam and Tailen DiGregorio set a new school record in the 4 x 100 meter relay. Joe Cobb, Spenser Shoffner, Alex Ingam and Tailen DiGregorio also set a new school record in the 4 x 200 meter relay.

Girl's Track Team Concludes Another Successful Season
The girls track team recently concluded successful season. Successes included Savannah Davis, named the girl's best sprinter at the recent sectional meet, who set a new school record in the 200 meter dash. The team also won the annual city meet with Robertsville. Coaches Mr. Reddick, Mr. Graves and Mr. Byas were very pleased with the efforts of everyone involved. Congratulations to our student-athletes.

Bowl For Goodness' Sake Raises Money for Good Causes
Nearly one hundred students and staff bowled March 29, having fun while making donations to worthy charities.

TSA Competes in Pigeon Forge
Jefferson’s Technology Student Association team competed in the Tennessee TSA State Conference in Pigeon Forge. The team of eighteen competed in 23 events against over 25 other middle school teams from across the state and brought home nine trophies. Read more...

Dr. Pippin and UTK Students Address SECME
Dr. Pippin from the UTK College of Engineering and two graduating seniors majoring in Aeronautical and Mechanical engineering are pictured with Mr. Lay, Mr. Cooper, and members of JMS' SECME Club. The UTK students talked to SECME participants about the importance of preparing academically for a career in the engineering field.

Career Series Continues
Women representing various professions have been invited to speak to sixth grade girls at Jefferson in an informal exchange during lunch. On March 10th, the girls hosted Ms. Zandra Wilkins, guest speaker representing Civil Engineering and Fine Jewelry retail.

Jefferson Chess Teams: Kings and Queen of Tournament
Jefferson sent four teams to the regional tournament at the University of Tennessee on March 1. An A team and a B team competed in the elementary division and in the junior high division.
The Junior High B team, consisting of Thomas Kerr, Jim Andress, Ben Foust, Billy Pettit and alternate Orlando Vidal not only won every round, but they also won every game and were awarded first place. The Elementary B team, which included Rob Aga, Wilson Pang, Andy Allen, Tatz Kato and alternate Alex Picket also won every round and placed first in their division. Tatz Kato was a perfect 4-0.
The Junior High A team, with members Jaylon Freeman, Zeph Meares, Jonathan Hill and Austin McWhirter placed third in a very competitive division including arch rivals Farragut and Webb. Jonathan was perfect for the day, winning all four of his matches. The Elementary A team consisting of Nikki Lee, Adi Chourey, Esten Dunn and Nick Waraksa, with Rob Aga as alternate, placed fourth.
Both the A teams have now quailified to compete for the state championship in Cookeville on March 29. Congratulations to all these excellent students.

JMS Students Participate in the African-American Read-in
The third annual African American Read-In held recently at the Children's Defense Fund Haley Farm. Nationally the event has been observed annually for nineteen years. It is sponsored each year by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) as a way to celebrate literacy and to kick-off Black History Month. This year's Read-In at Haley Farm highlighted the contributions of African American female writers. Participants shared the writings of authors such as Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Zora Neale Hurston, Jacqueline Woodson, J. California Cooper, Nikki Giovanni, Alice Walker, and Ruby Bridges. A number of JMS students attended and participated.
